Following the Sep 2024 Barcelona Declaration meeting at the Sorbonne University in Paris, the May 28-29, 2025 meeting in Bologna offered a new opportunity to reflect on the progress, exchange ideas, and shape the next steps for the Barcelona Declaration on Open Research Information.
All presentations delivered at the recently held Spring 2025 euroCRIS Membership Meeting (MM2025) in Leuven are already available in the euroCRIS repository. Repository items for each of these have also been linked from the event programme.
The Autumn 2025 euroCRIS Strategic Membership Meeting at the Izmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH) in Türkiye will run from 25 to 27 Nov 2025. A preliminary SMM2025 event website will soon be made available.
As it is customary, the annual euroCRIS accounts for 2024 were presented to euroCRIS members at the Spring 2025 membership meeting in Leuven and made openly available on the website. For the first time, an appendix to the annual accounts provides the list of official euroCRIS members as of 31 Dec 2024.
A lovely video prepared by euroCRIS members the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) has underpinned the announcement at the end of the Leuven membership meeting that the CRIS2026 Conference will be held in May 19-22, 2026 at the Campus Ponta Delgada of the University of the Azores in the island of São Miguel. A summary of the venues for the forthcoming euroCRIS events is included in the "updates from the Board" presentation delivered by euroCRIS President Jan Dvořák.
The paper "Common Research Information Management from a European University Alliance Perspective" coauthored by four euroCRIS Board members (Pablo de Castro, Jan Dvořák, Ognjen Orel and Joachim Schöpfel) will be part of the programme for the EUNIS Annual Congress 2025 to be held at the Ulster University in Belfast on June 4-6, 2025. The paper explores the research activity conducted by these transnational networks of European universities and the role that interoperable research information management systems can play in enhancing this work.
Approximately 30 attendees were present at the Apr 24th second online meeting of the euroCRIS Working Group on Artificial Intelligence for Research Information Systems (AI4CRIS). The meeting was coordinated by euroCRIS Board member António Lopes and included two presentations on AI-mediated duplicate record detection (by Joachim Dornbusch, Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne) and on the integration of AI into CRIS systems more generally (by Joachim Schöpfel, Université de Lille and euroCRIS Board member). The next WG activity will be a round table on Day II (Thu May 15th) of the Spring 2025 euroCRIS membership meeting in Leuven.
An advanced version of the programme for the May 13-15 Spring 2025 euroCRIS membership meeting in Leuven is available on the event website. This programme is not yet final and will be completed as the last presentation titles are received, but it already provides a snapshot of the structure, the speakers and the topics of this meeting.
The first edition of the Journées d’étude de l’Abes will be held May 22-23, 2025 at the University of Montpellier Paul-Valéry. The preliminary event programme for Thu May 22nd includes an "international perspective" euroCRIS talk. This overview on research information tools and workflows will be delivered by Board member Joachim Schöpfel.
Besides the launch of the live FIS Landkarte portal reported a couple of weeks ago, the Commission for Research Information in Germany (KFiD) has also released version 2.0 of the KDSF standard for research information in Germany. The new KDSF standard shifts the focus from a reporting standard to a basic data and metadata model for research information systems: it contains a model of research information entities and specifies how these are defined, linked and processed for further use such as for example in the KDSF reference queries which contain suggestions for KDSF-compatible information queries. In addition to the comprehensive basic data model, KDSF modules provide sets of selected entities and metadata to support a step-by-step application the standard.
