euroCRIS at the 9th Seminar of University Knowledge Bases

A new edition of the Seminar of Polish University Knowledge Bases is held Mar 22-24, 2023 and euroCRIS is present on the event programme again this year. A presentation on "Recent advances in CRIS interoperability" is to be delivered by the euroCRIS Technical Secretary on Fri Mar 24th. The talk will address the progress around CRIS interoperability taken place since last year's event including the launch of the NatResPort WG and recent developments in the area of PIDs.

FAICORE4EOSC project meeting

The FAICORE4EOSC project was kicked-off in June 2022. The project is developing a set of core components for the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC). One of its tasks aims to resolve the interoperability issues of research information and aggregate local and national CRIS information to the EOSC Core by using CERIF as a common data model. euroCRIS is a member of the project's Advisory Board and thereby, will be represented in the first FAIRCORE4EOSC plenary project meeting to be held Apr 17-19, 2023 in Kajaani, Finland.

Plans for a session on OpenAIRE compliance for national and regional CRIS

Following the webinar on OpenAIRE compliance for CRIS managers held in Oct last year, a joint OpenAIRE/euroCRIS follow-up dissemination session on this topic is currently being prepared. Although open to any interested CRIS manager, the activity will be specifically addressed to national and regional CRIS teams represented in the recently launched NatResPort WG. Short contributions are expected to be delivered by reps from national CRIS platforms in the Netherlands and Finland that have already gone through the process of becoming OpenAIRE compliant. These will be followed by a discussion on the perceived benefits and the possible technical challenges involved in the process.

Jan Dvořák elected new euroCRIS President

One of the main outcomes of the face-to-face euroCRIS Board meeting held Feb 21, 2023 at DANS in The Hague was the election of Jan Dvořák as the new euroCRIS President following Sadia Vancauwenbergh's stepping down as President at the end of 2022. Jan works as CRIS analyst at the Computing and Information Centre of the Czech Technical University in Prague (Czechia) and lectures at the Institute of Information Studies and Librarianship of the Charles University in Prague.

Deadline for contributions to the EUNIS Annual Conference extended

The original Feb 21 deadline for conference submissions for the 29th Annual EUNIS Congress, to be held 14-16 June, 2023 at the University of Vigo in Galicia (Spain), has now been extended until Mar 6. Research information systems and their design, development and deployment is one of the proposed tracks in the call for proposals for the event.

Venue for the MM2023Brussels

As announced earlier this month, the Spring 2023 euroCRIS membership meeting will take place in Brussels on May 31 and June 1, 2023. The venue for the meeting will be the DoubleTree hotel next to the Botanic Garden in the city centre. The official #MM2023Brussels dinner will be held at the scenic Atomium restaurant. A message has been sent to all euroCRIS members providing further details on the logistics: a registration page will soon be put up and a preliminary event programme will follow suit.

Spring 2023 membership meeting in Brussels

The forthcoming euroCRIS Spring 2023 membership meeting will take place on May 31 and June 1, 2023 in Brussels. We are not yet able to disclose the actual location for the event since the local organisers -- the EWI Department for Economy, Science and Innovation of the Flemish Government -- are still holding talks with a few candidate venues in the city centre. This final info will be provided as soon as it becomes available; in the meantime the info on dates and host city is shared to enable travel planning by our members.

TAPIR end-of-project WS on Mon Feb 6th

The BMBF-funded TAPIR project (acronym for "Partially Automated Persistent Identifier-based Reporting" in German language) led by TIB Hannover and the University of Osnabrück will hold an (online) end-of-project workshop on Mon Feb 6th. The project has explored among other things the harvesting of research information on the basis of persistent identifiers and the partially automated generation of research reports using VIVO. The event programme includes CRIS-related talks from José Francisco Salm Junior (on the use of PIDs in the Brazilian Lattes) and Sabina Auhunas on PIDs in the Ukrainian Research Information System URIS.

Knowledge Exchange report and case studies on PIDs released

The release of the report "Building the plane as we fly it: the promise of Persistent Identifiers" was announced on Thu Feb 2nd. Written for the Knowledge Exchange by a team of consultants under the scidecode banner which includes two members of the euroCRIS Board, the report is the outcome of the KE project "Risks and Trust in pursuit of a well-functioning Persistent Identifier infrastructure for research" that was first presented at the CRIS2022 Conference in Dubrovnik.

First call of the national/regional research portals WG

The kick-off meeting for the newly launched #NatResPortWG was held on Feb 1st, 2023. Coordinated by the RIS Synergy project team at TU Wien and the University of Vienna, this first meeting saw 35 attendees from national and regional CRIS initiatives in Belgium, Brazil, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Israel, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Ukraine. A list of suitable topics for the WG discussions was agreed together with the logistics for this collaborative effort.
