euroCRIS Honorary President Keith Jeffery passes away

Sun, 01/02/2026 - 20:41 -- euroCRIS Secret...

The euroCRIS Board is sad to report that euroCRIS funder and Honorary President Keith Jeffery passed away on Jan 15th, 2026. Not only did he come up with the whole new discipline of research information management, he also kept supporting the evolution of the organisation he had helped create way beyond his stepping down as its founding President in 2014.

In the words of a current, experienced Board member, "I still remember my first euroCRIS event (the conference in Maribor, Slovenia [ìn 2008]). At the time, I was a complete newbie and a total beginner in the CRIS world, suddenly finding myself in a room full of seasoned experts. It was Keith (and Anne Asserson) who made me feel at home in this community from the very beginning. They quickly convinced me that this is a great community to be a part of".

We have searched our graphic archives and found a couple of pictures to honour Keith's memory – which shall live on at euroCRIS for as long as the organisation exists. We weren't able to find any trace of his musical performance at the Guggenheim Museum, guitar in hand, at the end of the official dinner for an event held in Bilbao many years ago, but the amusing image is still fresh in several Board members' memory.

Rest in Peace, Professor.
