A growing number of universities and research institutions in Germany are using current research information systems (CRIS) and similar information systems to collect, process and analyse institutional research activities. As universities progress with the digitisation of research management processes, new system providers are entering the market. The Commission for Research Information in Germany (KFiD) and the DINI Working Group on Research Information and its Systems (DINI AG FIS) have launched a collaborative project (FIS-Landkarte) to continuously monitor these fast-paced developments. The aim of the project is to develop an interactive CRIS map for German universities and research institutions. This map will feature both operational and in-planning institutional CRIS and will combine geospatial data with data on the current operational status, system provider and the broad types of research information registered. As part of the close cooperation between euroCRIS, the KFiD and the DINI AG FIS, the information collected in the course of this monitoring project will be used to provide regular updates to German institution entries listed in the euroCRIS Directory of Research Information Systems (DRIS).

A brief summary of the current status and aims of the project was recently presented at the workshop “PIDs for open access publication repositories and CRIS” held on Mar 20th by the PID Network Germany project (slides 5-8, presentation in German).
