Seminar 9-10 September 2013 - Brussels There is a recent strong interest with many communities considering how best to manage their research information (RI). For strategic management, but also for evaluation, knowledge and technology transfer, RI management is an essential requirement. Increasingly, the research output system beyond research publications is broadened towards research products such as datasets and software and expanding to research outcomes and impact. Research Information Systems (CRISs) and in particular CERIF are increasingly recognised as a powerful means with respect to advanced metadata management. euroCRIS has developed inter-conversion services to/from CERIF with the most-used metadata standards reinforcing the position of CERIF as an interoperation standard for RI and CRISs. Nonetheless there is room for the evolution of CERIF to meet new emerging requirements. The aim of this euroCRIS Strategic Seminar is to convene key stakeholders and discuss the needs and forthcoming challenges in this context.. CRIS2014 Rome
Managing Data Intensive Science - the role of Research Information Systems in realising the digital agenda
12th International Conference on Current Research Information Systems
The CRIS 2014 conference dealt with recent trends in the management, availability, quality and use of Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) in the context of e-Science, bringing together researchers, managers of research-performing or funding institutions, evaluators, librarians, ICT experts and policy makers.
CRIS systems do increasingly lie at the the core of the information management infrastructure for all organisations involved with research: where it is performed, funded, assesssed. The growing emphasis on enhancing transparency of research, maximising the impact and knowledge transfer, improving dissemination of research results - covering publications, but also datasets and software - requires joint efforts for the achievement of a common vision on the research lifecycle, for the development of integrated information systems as well as for efficient policies that support e-Science infrastructure.
The euroCRIS community has long been engaged in enhancing access to European Research Information. At this 12th International Conference on Current Research Information Systems discussion took place on how linking information systems can help to tackle fragmentation of the national, international and subject level and contribute to the enhancement of research and innovation in Europe and beyond.
CRIS 2014 took place in the historic city of Rome under the patronage of the Italian National Research Council (CNR). The conference was organised by the Institute for Research on Population and Social Policies (CNR-IRPPS) and euroCRIS.
The target audience included managers of research-performing and/or funding institutions, evaluators, librarians, ICT experts, as well as policy makers.
You can find the presentations of the CRIS2014 Conference in our euroCRIS Repository (choose above in the menu: "Repository").

CRIS 2012: e-Infrastructures for Research and Innovation - Linking Information Systems to Improve Scientific Knowledge Production
11th International Conference on Current Research Information Systems
June 6-9, Prague, Czech Republic
The positive and causal link between research on one hand and wealth creation and improvement in the quality of life on the other is established. Questions may be asked concerning the quality of the research and the value for money. In order to answer these questions, and manage the associated processes, research information has become indispensable. It started as the simple administrative data on research projects, their funding and their lead participant. Over time, research information expanded to record many other aspects of research: results, funding, facilities, equipment, research-related services, impact. Current Research Information Systems (CRIS) are becoming the core of the information infrastructure of all organisations that have to do with research: those that perform it, fund it, or track it.
CRIS 2012 is the eleventh in the biennial series of conferences on CRIS organised since 2002 by euroCRIS. Between 1991 and 2000 a somewhat irregular CRIS conference series was run in an ad hoc manner with some support from the European Commission. CRIS 2012 has attracted a rather large number of submisisons that document well the current trends in all aspects of CRIS. The big challenge many authors approach from different angles is setting up meaningful and scalable links between CRIS and other information systems, and among CRIS themselves to provide an international overview of research. In this way, CRIS are becoming integral parts of research e-Infrastructures; the connected CRIS in fact form a very important e-Infrastructure themselves.
