euroCRIS feedback on the proposal for an open Persistent Institution Identifier Registry (openPIIR)

euroCRIS has now provided its feedback on the proposal for an open Persistent Institution Identifier Registry (openPIIR) launched last July by the ORG_ID Product Breakout Group. This is a suggestion to apply a hybrid approach of both staff-curated and organization-managed records to the creation and maintenance of Organisation IDs.
The ORG_ID working group issued a Request for Information on Oct 9th, 2017 to welcome comment and interest from the broader research community in developing the Registry. The feedback delivered by euroCRIS states the support for this openPIIR proposal and suggests that the CERIF model could solidly underpin its suggested approach, while the associated information exchange formats can serve as a good basis for the API of the openPIIR. The feedback also suggests to collaborate with CASRAI for determining the precise definitions of the data items of the registry.
